HIST 341 - Research Seminar: The Korean War

This research seminar takes an expansive view of the Korean War’s duration from its origins in the late 19th century to its unended status today while embracing recent historiography of the formal war years of 1950-1953 that explore new areas of inquiry, especially its social and cultural history. Students will conduct individual historical research projects to write a substantial research paper on a topic related to the war. Locating and using primary sources are mandatory. Research proposal, progress, and results will be shared and discussed in class. Students should have a tentative topic in mind at the start of the course. Students should have familiarity with the history of the Korean War, modern Korea, and/or the Cold War.
