HIST 448 - Slavery, Law, and Warfare in North AmericaFC SSCI CD WADV 4 credits This course examines how war, slavery, and law developed in North America among its diverse peoples over several centuries from the precolonial era to the aftermath of the American Civil War. Students will come to understand how Native Americans’, Africans’, and Europeans’ understandings of slavery, law, and war influenced their behavior as enemies and as allies. The interactions of so many different people in North America resulted in cultural exchanges as well as conflicts that shaped the continent and, more broadly, the world. Assignments include primary source analyses, secondary source readings and analyses, and a final research project.
