How we experience time shapes how we view ourselves and our world. This seminar will invite students to reflect on various conceptions and meanings of time from a broad range of historical periods and through philosophical, scientific, and artistic perspectives. Questions and topics to be considered include: Is time real? Where in the world is now? How do different timescales alter our perceptions? Why do we regard some ‘times’ as more meaningful than others? Does time begin or end? How should we value our self in the past and future? What do we gain or lose by measuring time?
