FCSSCICDWINT4 credits This course uses music to open a window of understanding into the fight for Indigenous survival. Featuring a different Indigenous artist each week, we will work in genres ranging from hip hop to art music, spoken word to jazz, and will examine pressing issues for Indigenous communities, including settler colonialism, Indigenous sovereignty, environmental justice, and government policies. Our investigation will be driven by such questions as: What role can music play in social movements? What genres of music are most effective at conveying social and political messages? And how might we shape our own responses to larger questions of Indigenous sovereignty? Field trip(s) required.
