HIST 375 - Beyond Indiana Jones: The History, Politics, and Culture of ArchaeologyFC ARHU CD WADV 4 credits Why does archaeology interest so many people around the globe? Is it all about the thrill of uncovering ancient knowledge and treasures, or is there something more to it? This course examines the histories of archaeology through the lenses of nationalism, colonialism, imperialism, and cultural heritage formation to better understand the wider political, cultural, social, international, and imperial contexts of the discipline and its impact across time, space, and cultures. In this course, students will engage with scholarly literature and primary sources, conduct a series of research assignments, and develop their own final projects in this subfield of modern global history.
