ECON 210 - Economic History of Latin America

FC ARHU CD QFR
4 credits
A survey of the economic development of Latin America from colonial times through the 20th century. In particular, we will analyze the colonial and post-independence period to examine the roots of the weak institutional development that explain the region’s financial crises, macroeconomic instability, and low growth trajectory. The emphasis is on the use of macroeconomic theory and quantitative evidence to explore key questions and themes related to the development of the Latin American economy.

Prerequisites: ECON 101.
