CRWR 325 - Creating the NovelFC ARHU WADV 4 credits The novel is not just any long work of fiction, but rather a particular literary form. So how does one write a novel, exactly–and, just as importantly, why? Readings in this class will include craft texts, full novels and excerpts, and critical texts that explore the rise of the novel as a tradition: what sets it apart from other prose, and its enduring relevance. Workshops will use a variety of prompts aimed at helping student writers practice the aspects–character, structure, story, etc.–needed to develop novels of their own. Applications to all 300s are typically due mid-semester the semester before the class; majors fill out the “300-level preference form,” while aspiring majors and minors, and all other applicants, apply to the course with a portfolio. Primarily for majors and aspiring minors.
Prerequisites: two 200-level courses in CRWR.
